Academic Language and Literacy: Asset-Based Instruction for All Classrooms (2024–25)

The Academic Language and Literacy Community of Practice empowers educators to enhance student engagement and provide access to rigorous content through targeted language development. This professional learning experience helps educators nurture students’ backgrounds and build academic language through reading, writing, speaking, and listening scaffolds. Participants will integrate AVID’s college and career readiness skills with language-building routines and strategies, promoting academic preparedness, opportunity knowledge, and student agency for multilingual learners and other learners who need language support. This course will equip educators to create equitable learning spaces that foster student voice and active participation in various academic contexts.
